The 257-foot-tall Mickey Mouse arm, glove and wand logo attached to Spaceship Earth in Walt Disney World's Epcot is coming down.
The crane is up and the arm will be removed in time for EPCOT's 25th Anniversary Celebrations in October. I was there when it was unveiled in 2000 and to be honest I have never really been a fan.
The power of Disney advertising was evident in full force in my family this week. My 5 year old son was insistent that we went to see the new Disney Pixar movie as soon as it was released. I was less than enthusiastic. The reason? I have to admit I have a serious rat phobia and even I did not see how Disney could make rats look cute. Mice yes, rats no!
The story of the unusual partnership between Remy the Rat and Linguine the Kitchen Boy is a charming tale of how fears and prejudices can be put aside. The animation is amazing. I particularly enjoyed the accuracy of the portrayal of a professional kitchen. I enjoy cooking and have been reading a lot recently about the fascinating world of the gourmet chef.
I enjoyed the movie very much. Yes, there were some moments when I had to look away. Some of the scenes were way too much for me – the rats looked way too real. But having said that I cannot wait to see it again as I loved it's well structured amusing story and characters. Highly recommended and it seems that others agree – it was the top movie in the US during it's opening weekend taking in more than $47 million.
